MORNING AND EVENING by Charles Spurgeon
This devotion was written by Charles Spurgeon, known as the “Prince of Preachers.” His devotional features two daily readings, one for the morning and one for the evening. Each devotion begins with a Scripture passage and follows with a short but insightful application of the text. The evening devotion always build on the morning devotion. I believe a morning and evening devotional is useful, not only for the insight and inspiration it provides but also the habit it develops of taking time to meditate on the things of God morning and night.
Why we Recommend
Throughout his devotional, Spurgeon unpacks deep biblical truths and applies them in a way that is clear and easy to understand. Furthermore, the twice-daily format helps strengthen reading consistency.
Notable Quote
“Without constant restorations, we are not ready for the perpetual assaults of hell or the stern affliction of heaven or even the conflicts within. When the whirlwind is loosed, woe to the tree that has not sucked up fresh sap and grasped the rock with many intertwined roots.”
Why it’s a Classic
Because of its rich and practical insights, it has been one of the most popular Christian devotionals for over 150 years.
